Nvidia is adding a new model to its Jetson Orin series to make AI more accessible and affordable to developers and hobbyists.

Jensen Huang invites us into his kitchen to get the latest Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano Super out of the oven. This is a powerful AI computer that fits in your hand and is the latest addition to the Jetson Orin series. The little computer is designed to support robotcs and edge AI applications and should make that technology more accessible to developers and hobbyists.

Small but super

Nvidia may save on the size of the computer, but it does not do so on the inside. The Jetson Orin Nano Super computer is equipped with Nvidia Ampere GPUs that deliver up to seventy trillion TOPS. According to Nvidia, the new model makes a performance jump of seventy percent and fifty percent in memory over the previous Orin Nano to justify the word “Super” in the name.

“We gave the Orin Nano a cape and turned it into a superhero. The word ‘super’ refers to two things: more performance at half the price,” Nvidia said in a comment to SiliconAngle.

The little computer is powerful enough to run today’s most popular generative AI models, Huang clarifies in the announcement video. That makes the developer kit an accessible platform for building and designing applications to use AI models in an edge context, such as robotics or Internet of Things. This immediately fills the bingo card of buzzwords.

Developer’s Kit

The Jetson Orin Nano Super is available in a developer kit, which, in addition to a Jetson Orin Nano Super, also provides a platform for prototyping applications and a reference architecture for edge AI applications. Nvidia provides the developer kits with software updates to keep improving performance. The cost of the total package is $249: an ideal Christmas gift for AI do-it-yourselfers.
