Juniper releases own SSR routers and software for easy router management

Juniper Networks has released new software features and hardware. The new features simplify router management.

Juniper wants to make routers easier to manage. Last year’s acquisition of startup 128 Technology allows the company to bring new software features and hardware to market that will help achieve the ambition.

Innovating through acquisition

In the whole story, the acquisition of 128 Technology plays an important role. Indeed, Juniper took a virtual router that had been fully implemented in software, from 128 Technology’s range as the basis for its novelties. The software of this virtual router was repackaged by Juniper into the Session Smart Router (SSR) product. SSR allows companies to establish Internet connectivity between different offices, data centers and cloud deployments.

The virtual router can be used on different types of hardware. Juniper is now expanding that offering with its own offering of routers. The SSR120 and SSR130 are aimed at SMEs, while the SSR1000 has more advanced capabilities and can be used in the data center and in the cloud.

The software released by Juniper allows new routers to be set up and configured from the cloud. IT specialists are given the ability to adjust cyber security settings for the SSR system themselves. Furthermore, they can set how data traffic should be routed in the corporate network.

New plan

Finally, Juniper is introducing a new plan called the Branch Security Pack. In this plan, Juniper gives more feature capabilities to the SSR router for detecting network breaches and filtering malicious data traffic.

Customers and partners can use and configure SSR directly through the Mist cloud and AI engine.
