SAP expands the scope of its AI copilot Joule and launches new AI agents. These functions aim to increase productivity and accelerate decision-making within organizations.
During Sapphire 2025 in Orlando, SAP presented new AI functionalities focused on increasing efficiency in business processes. As with every major technology company, generative AI and all its derivatives have been the main theme for SAP for the past year or two.
Joule Everywhere
Central to this is the integration of the generative AI copilot Joule in all internal applications, but SAP also wants to expand the playing field beyond that. With a new action and navigation bar, developed in collaboration with SAP WalkMe, Joule can analyze user behavior and provide proactive support without the need for manual commands. This should simplify daily tasks while the AI continues to operate within SAP’s ethical guidelines.
A collaboration with Perplexity extends Joule’s functionality by answering real-time questions with visual and structured insights, such as graphs and tables. These answers are based on both internal business data and external sources, via integration with the SAP Knowledge Graph.
Agent Library
Nowadays, we no longer talk about copilots, but about agents when it comes to AI. SAP introduces a library of new AI agents that can independently execute processes in finance, supply chain, procurement, HR, and customer experience, among others. These agents use real-time data to act adaptively and autonomously with reduced human intervention. The agents are designed with interoperability and flexibility in mind.
With AI Foundation, SAP offers a central development environment for building, testing, and managing custom AI solutions, for those who like to roll up their sleeves. A new prompt helper assists users in writing more effective AI prompts.
Data Cloud
SAP expands Business Data Cloud, a new joint platform with Databricks, with smart applications that analyze business data and perform simulations. A new People Intelligence dashboard translates data from SAP SuccessFactors into practical recommendations for team development and compliance. An integration with Palantir helps customers set up a harmonized data foundation.
Additionally, a cloud application is being introduced to support organizations in digital transformations. This tool visualizes transition paths based on data from Signavio and LeanIX, with Joule as the entry point. SAP promises that customers can derive value from cloud implementations up to 35 percent faster with this.
The new AI functions are being rolled out in phases in SAP S/4HANA Cloud and other SAP products. SAP AI Foundation and the cloud transition solution are available to customers with a Business Technology Platform license. Those who prefer to stay on-premise will miss out on all of this: one of the pressure tactics SAP uses to get customers to move to the cloud.
