Google rolls out the basic version of Vids to all users and adds AI features for subscribers.
The basic version of Google’s Vids, an AI-powered app for editing videos, is now available to all users. Previously, only Google Workspace or Google AI subscribers had access.
Free Users Miss out on AI Features
Vids was launched last year and is the latest addition to Google Workspace. It’s designed to quickly create video presentations thanks to a range of AI and other tools. For example, there’s a feature to create a timeline with suggested scenes, stock photos, and background music.
In addition to the general availability of the basic version, Vids also gets new paid AI features. Users can choose from 12 pre-made avatars, each with a different appearance and voice. These can read a script instead of you having to record it yourself. Additionally, you can generate an eight-second video with Veo 3 based on an image. If you still want to use a video of yourself, the AI can remove pauses and filler words from the footage.
More Productivity
According to a product director at Google in The Verge, these new features are designed to help companies save money and time when it comes to product demos, training videos, or other content. “A ten-minute video with real actors can easily take months of filming time. We hear from customers that this allows more employees to create these types of videos more frequently.”
