ChatGPT continues to grow rapidly and now has 700 million weekly active users.
ChatGPT currently has 700 million active users. This was shared by Nick Turley, VP of OpenAI, in a post on X. He also mentioned that ChatGPT reached 500 million users by the end of March and that the app has quadrupled in usage since last year.
Rapid Growth
The popularity of ChatGPT increased significantly after the introduction of the enhanced image generator in March. The number of daily requests exceeds 2.5 billion, which also translates into market share. According to Statcounter figures, eight out of ten AI users prefer ChatGPT.
New features
OpenAI continues to develop the AI bot further. The AI company will soon launch GPT-5, combining models into one. Recent updates include a memory function, an AI agent, various personalities for the chatbot, and a study mode for students. Additionally, an AI-powered browser is expected to arrive, competing with Google Chrome.
Alongside improvements, ChatGPT has faced some criticism. Users found the chatbot annoyingly friendly, prompting OpenAI to better balance the model. The energy costs of AI in general have also been repeatedly controversial.
In his message, Turley mentioned that next week is going to be “exciting”. For now, we don’t know what that means.
