ChatGPT Gets a Recording Feature on macOS

OpenAI rolls out Record Mode for Plus subscribers, featuring audio recordings and summaries.

Following an earlier test with business clients, Record Mode in ChatGPT is now also available to macOS users with a Plus subscription. The new feature allows users to record audio during meetings and conversations, after which ChatGPT automatically generates a transcript and summary.

One-click Recording

In the desktop app, a simple recording button appears in the input field. It allows users to capture both microphone and system audio. After stopping the recording, OpenAI processes the audio on its servers. You then receive structured notes with a summary, action list, and timestamps.

Recordings can last up to 120 minutes. OpenAI deletes the original audio file once the transcription is complete.

Privacy Remains a Sensitive Issue

OpenAI emphasizes that users must first seek permission from all participants. In the settings, users can disable the contribution of recordings to model training. For Team, Enterprise, and Education users, this is already disabled by default.

The feature is currently only available on macOS, writes MacRumors. No plans have been announced yet for a Windows or mobile version. Administrators can disable the feature via the ChatGPT settings.
