Cybersecurity Company Proofpoint Expands Its Portfolio with the Acquisition of Hornetsecurity, a European Provider of Microsoft 365 Security Services

Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hornetsecurity. The European company specializes in security, data protection, and compliance for Microsoft 365, focusing primarily on managed service providers (MSPs) and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). With this acquisition, Proofpoint aims to strengthen its offering for these specific customer segments.

Integrated platform

Hornetsecurity currently generates over 143 million euros in annual recurring revenue and shows year-over-year growth of more than twenty percent. The company collaborates with more than 12,000 channel partners and MSPs, serving over 125,000 SMEs in Europe.

Proofpoint focuses on larger companies and serves a large portion of the Fortune 1000, among others. Together, the companies aim to offer an integrated platform that utilizes shared threat intelligence.

People-centric security via MSPs

Proofpoint sees Hornetsecurity as a complement to its existing platform for people-centric security. The acquisition also offers opportunities to penetrate deeper into the European market. Hornetsecurity’s platform ‘365 Total Protection’ provides features such as email security, backup, access management, and protection against domain fraud, specifically tailored for M365 use.

The collaboration fits within Proofpoint’s broader strategy to expand its partnership with Microsoft and thus more specifically address threats targeting users and data. After the completion of the acquisition, planned for the second half of 2025, Hornetsecurity will continue to operate independently within the group.

CEO Daniel Hofmann and the existing management team will remain on board and continue working on the strategic growth of the platform. The financial details of the acquisition remain confidential.
