This year, Microsoft bought nearly 500,000 Nvidia Hopper chips. This is more than double compared to its rivals.

Microsoft could well be Nivdia’s customer of the year. The company bought 485,000 Nvidia Hopper chips this year to be exact, according to an estimate by technology consulting firm Omdia, according to the Financial Times. This large inventory could give Microsoft an edge in the AI race. Meta bought some 224,000 of Nvidia’s flagship chips this year, but Amazon and Google also bought fewer.

Microsoft and AI

That Microsoft embraced AI even more this year is the least you can say. As recently as 2023, the company announced its own AI chip, Maia. Moreover, the number of Nvidia Hopper chips the company bought tripled compared to 2023. Rivals Meta, Amazon and Google bought remarkably fewer.
