Microsoft will invest more than $80 billion in AI in the fiscal year of 2025, which ends in June. More than half of that money will be released for AI data centers in the U.S., Brad Smith, vice chairman and president of Microsoft, wrote in a blog post. The US is the leader in the AI market, according to the company, thanks to investments from private capital and innovations by American companies.

Microsoft is releasing more than $80 billion for AI in the current fiscal year of 2025, which ends in June. These investments will serve to support its own AI workloads as well as those of customers using the Azure cloud computing service.

“In FY 2025, Microsoft is on track to invest approximately $80 billion to build out AI data centers to train AI models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications around the world. More than half of this total investment will be in the United States, reflecting our commitment to this country and our confidence in the U.S. economy,” Smith said.
US as AI leader
According to Smith, the U.S. currently leads the global AI race due to the combination of private capital investment and innovations by U.S. companies such as OpenAI, with which Microsoft has a close partnership. Microsoft has also developed a range of its own AI models and incorporated them into its product offerings.
