Citrix is acquiring Germany’s Unicon. With this acquisition, Citrix aims to help companies use existing hardware longer and set up more secure hybrid workstations.
Citrix is buying Germany’s Unicon. Unicon provides software for managing and securing endpoints. The company makes eLux OS and associated management tool Scout. eLux is a lightweight x86 OS that can run on a lot of hardware. The operating system is based on Linux and serves to give users access to a VDI environment.
Thin client
eLux helps repurpose existing devices as thin clients. This allows companies to give their employees access to VDI environments without having to buy new hardware. This is especially relevant today with the end of support for Windows 10 looming. With the Scout management platform, IT teams can centrally manage endpoints and deploy applications more efficiently.
Citrix and Unicon have been working together since 2001, integrating eLux with Citrix solutions for VDI and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS). The acquisition allows Citrix to offer companies a complete solution for secure access to applications and desktops without additional software licenses.
With the acquisition, Citrix is responding to the growing demand for more sustainable IT solutions. Unicon’s technology helps companies use hardware longer, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint. This is of interest to sectors such as finance, public sector and healthcare, where security and cost efficiency are important, according to Citrix.
