The online platform Bluesky now has a European office in Brussels. The Belgian telecom regulator BIPT will be responsible for regulation.
The American Bluesky, a relatively new social platform, will establish a European office in our country. The Belgian telecom regulator BIPT is responsible for regulation. This new office, which is only a legal representation and not a physical office, must ensure that Bluesky complies with European regulations.
European Office
The American Bluesky has only existed for two years but is already presenting itself as a worthy alternative to X. The company, with its headquarters in Seattle, now also has a European representation in Brussels. The Belgian telecom watchdog BIPT will be responsible for regulating Bluesky.
The terms and conditions state that Bluesky has legal representation in an office in Brussels, as noted by Euronews. This is not a physical office, but a legal representation through a law firm. According to European rules, there should eventually be a real office. At present, the European Commission can be in contact with the company’s headquarters in Seattle through the Brussels office.
VLOP
Online platforms that exceed the threshold of 45 million users in the EU are designated as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) under the Digital Services Act (DSA). Stricter rules apply to such large players compared to smaller companies. Previously, Telegram was designated as a VLOP after lying about its number of users to avoid the stricter rules.
