Google creates free Workspace module that does not require Gmail account

Google Workspace

Google announced a new module within its Workspace environment. The module is free and includes all parts of Workspace except Gmail.

Workspace Essentials Starter is a new module within Workspace that Google announced yesterday. The formula allows you to use all parts of Worspace, for example Google Docs, Sheets and Meet so. Only access to Gmail does not come with the formula.

Google services without a Gmail account

Google is choosing not to include Gmail in the formula to make it possible to use parts of Workspace even without a Gmail account. With this formula, Google wants to cater to employees and companies that use another party’s email service and other services.

Gmail within Google Workspace gets a new design

Previously, it was not possible to get started with programs from Workspace without a Gmail account. That changes now, signing up can simply be done with a pre-existing email account. According to Google’s blog post, someone with the Essentials Starter package gets 15 GB of cloud storage at their disposal.

Limit

In addition to the storage limit, there is also a limit on the number of users on one team. A total of 25 people can be included within one team. For enterprises, however, it is possible to re-create a new team afterwards at no cost.

Finally, Google puts some restrictions on Drive’s programs because the plan is free. Free accounts therefore have fewer features that the paying Enterprise Essentials plan.

The new, free service comes after Google cuts another free service. Free G Suite accounts with their own domain names will be discontinued starting July 1.
