Perplexity launches its own Deep Research tool

Perplexity is launching its own Deep Research tool that acts as a research assistant within various domains.

American AI company Perplexity AI announced its new Deep Research tool, which can perform “deep research and analysis” for you. The tool is free for limited use; only Pro subscribers get unlimited access. Perplexity is not the first company to come knocking with its own research assistant. OpenAI and Google were already ahead of the company. Perplexity’s Deep Research tool is now available on the Web and will soon be rolled out to iOS, Android and Mac apps.

In-depth research

Perplexity’s Deep Research says it takes two to four minutes to do work that would take a human expert hours. The tool is equipped with search and coding capabilities that allow the model to iteratively search for documents, read them and reason about what to do next. After the source material is evaluated, Deep Research writes a report, which can then be exported as a PDF or document and shared.

“Deep Research excels in areas such as finance, marketing and technology, and is equally useful as a personal advisor in areas such as health, product research and travel planning,” the company said. The blog post includes several examples of how Deep Research can be used within these domains.

Free up to five searches

Free users can perform up to five searches per day, while this rises to 500 for Pro subscribers. Perplexity’s Deep Research tool is currently only available on the Web, but would soon be rolled out to iOS, Android and Mac apps.

For those who are curious and would like to try out the tool in advance, they can do so by surfing to perplexity.ai and then clicking Deep Research in the lower left corner of the search box.
