Over half a million Belgians have already installed the MyGov.be app on their smartphone.
Meanwhile, more than half a million Belgians have downloaded the MyGov.be app on their smartphone, according to Minister of Government Modernization Vanessa Matz (Les Engagés) via VRT nws. MyGov.be is the new ‘digital wallet’ where citizens can find government information. Recently, the government app has also evolved into an authentication app for digital signatures.
Digital wallet
With already 500,000 downloads of the new MyGov.be app, many Belgians seem ready for the new digital wallet. MyGov.be was first announced last year. As soon as the legislation comes into effect, you will be able to store legally valid digital copies of documents such as your driver’s license and identity card.

Additionally, you can also access digital versions of other government documents in the app, such as marriage or birth certificates. The digital counterpart of these documents will not yet replace the physical version. Both systems will operate side by side for the time being.
itsme alternative
In early November, MyGov.be quietly evolved into an alternative to itsme, the well-known Belgian authentication app. With this, you can create digital signatures that are as legally valid as written signatures.

This is now also possible with MyGov.be, in a similar way to itsme. The government hopes to break itsme’s monopoly, which currently has 7.5 million users.
