Microsoft has announced that Teams will soon have a threads feature and that chats and channels will be combined.
Microsoft’s communications app Teams is getting a threads feature. This allows you to respond to someone’s chat message in a separate thread instead of in the original channel. This gives you a clear view of chat messages and a clear separation between questions, answers and topics.
New view for chats and channels
The chat and channel experience were also redesigned, The Verge knows. Chats, teams and channels are now displayed in one place. That makes it easier to organize and sort your conversations, as you no longer have to switch between different sections to see messages from groups or channels. You can still choose to group chats and channels into one section or keep them separate anyway.
In addition, there will be a favorites section where you can find pinned chats and channels. There are also buttons to see examples of messages, list all channels and display timestamps. Conversations will be highlighted thanks to this update when you are named somewhere, both in private messages and regular conversations.
This updated interface will be rolled out in preview for desktop and mobile next month. The update is expected to be publicly available around mid-2025.
