Two out of three Internet users worldwide use the Internet browser Google Chrome. In Belgium, the Google browser faces competition from Safari.

Google Chrome is and will remain the undisputed browser king at the start of 2025, figures from Statcounter show . Google’s browser closed 2024 with a 68.34 percent market share across all platforms. The market share increased another more than five percent over a year.

First pursuer Safari lost two percent to 17.12 percent. Safari gains its market share as a regular iOS browser primarily on mobile devices. In the desktop market, Edge is the second most popular browser, but with the mobile market included, Edge only achieves five percent. Whichever platform you look at, Google Chrome stands out head and shoulders above it.

Google Chrome is also the largest browser in Belgium, but at 48 percent, its dominance is much less pronounced. Chrome has actually lost eight percent since October. Safari pulled off a year-end spurt and increased its market share from 25 to 36 percent. Edge follows with seven percent.

The Digital Markets Act is not yet causing a shock effect in European figures. Market ratios have remained fairly constant through 2024: Google Chrome hovers around 60 percent, Safari around 20 percent and Edge sits at a good six percent. Chrome and Safari are covered by legislation; Microsoft has managed to force an exemption for Edge because of its low market share.
