Android 16 introduces AI-driven features that summarize and automatically organize notifications, providing users with a better overview of their notifications.
Google adds a new AI feature to Android 16. The new notification summaries help shorten long message threads, allowing users to quickly grasp the core of the conversation. Additionally, another new feature, Notification Organizer, ensures that low-priority notifications, such as newsletters or promotions, are bundled together.
AI notifications
With the new notification summaries, Google uses AI to shorten long message threads. The phone displays a brief summary at the top of the notification, allowing users to immediately see the core of a conversation. This reduces the need to scroll through entire chat histories, which can be particularly useful in busy group chats or with tools that send many notifications.
In addition to summaries, Android 16 introduces the Notification Organizer. This feature groups lower-priority notifications into separate categories, such as promotions, newsletters, and social updates. Important notifications, like direct messages or system alerts, remain at the top.
As a result, the user first sees notifications that likely require immediate attention. Less urgent notifications move to the background but remain accessible in grouped views, reducing the chance of critical messages being buried in a long list.
Google is rolling out the Notification Organizer gradually over the coming weeks.
