Meta announces new security features for WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger to better protect users from scams.
Meta has launched new tools on Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp to warn users about potential scams. At the same time, the company reports that in 2025 it removed more than 159 million scam advertisements and disabled over 10.9 million accounts linked to organized fraudulent activities.
According to Meta, criminals are constantly adapting their methods. As a result, the company is focusing on artificial intelligence to detect suspicious patterns more quickly. These systems analyze text, images, and context to recognize fraud faster.
AI to detect impersonations faster
A key focus is so-called “celeb-bait,” where scammers use the names or images of famous people to gain trust. Meta uses AI to analyze signals such as fake biographies or misleading associations with public figures.
The technology should also help in detecting brand impersonation. Criminals often redirect users to websites that mimic legitimate organizations. According to Meta, AI can better recognize these patterns by analyzing links, domains, and content in context.
New warnings for users
In addition to automatic detection, Meta is also introducing warnings for users. For example, WhatsApp users will receive a notification when a request to link a device to their account is potentially suspicious. Scammers sometimes try to gain access to an account by having victims scan a QR code or enter a verification code.
The notification shows where the request originated and warns that it may involve fraud. In this way, Meta aims to encourage users to verify before linking their account to another device.
