New Android security feature restarts device after 3 inactive days

Android devices locked for three consecutive days require a PIN code to unlock the device again.

Android introduces a new security feature that automatically restarts your phone after three consecutive days of being locked. This makes it more difficult for others to access your data. This new feature was mentioned in the latest update of Google Play Services.

Automatic restart

Google’s new security feature aims to ensure that other people cannot easily access your phone. This feature would automatically restart Android phones “if they have been locked for three consecutive days”. As a result, users need to enter their access code if they want to unlock the device.

This update would apply to both Android phones and tablets, as noted by 9to5Google. The feature is different from the known device reset, which restores the device to factory settings. With the restart function, phones and tablets are put into a Before First Unlock (BFU) status. This status encrypts data files and disables biometric login until the device’s PIN code is entered.

It is currently unclear when the Google Play Services 25.14 update will be rolled out. Moreover, we don’t yet know which Android devices will support this feature, and how it will work.
