1Password collaborates with Perplexity to equip the new AI browser Comet with built-in security features via a 1Password extension.
Password manager 1Password is collaborating with the American AI company Perplexity AI on the launch of Comet, an AI-driven web browser with built-in security. The browser includes an integrated 1Password extension that allows users to securely log in, automatically fill passwords, and protect accounts while browsing.
Built-in Password Manager
The new Comet browser, developed by Perplexity, focuses entirely on AI use while browsing. Unlike classic browsers, Comet aims to cater to the specific needs of users who more actively employ AI during their online activities. To ensure user safety, Perplexity is collaborating with 1Password for this purpose.
Through a browser extension, users can automatically fill in login credentials, generate strong passwords, and use two-factor authentication. The extension is freely available to existing 1Password customers. All data is locally encrypted with end-to-end encryption and remains invisible to third parties, even when using AI features in the browser.

The extension allows users to determine which data is available for AI services and when it can be used. 1Password’s architecture is based on the zero-knowledge principle, where users are the only ones with access to their data.
