Nokia, AMD, Cisco and JPL Build Open Telecom AI Platform

Nokia collaborates with Jio Platforms, AMD and Cisco on an Open Telecom AI Platform that integrates AI and automation into telecom networks to improve efficiency, security and performance.

Jio Platforms Limited (JPL), AMD, Cisco and Nokia have announced plans for an Open Telecom AI Platform. This platform aims to help telecom operators improve network security and efficiency using AI. The technology is designed as an open framework that can also be deployed by other telecom companies worldwide.

AI Throughout the Entire Network

The Open Telecom AI Platform is intended to add a new layer of intelligence to telecom networks. The involved companies want to integrate AI and automation into various network layers, including RAN, routing, data centers, and security. This should lead to more efficient and secure networks with lower operational costs.

The platform will work with various AI techniques, including agentic AI, Large Language Models (LLM “s), domain-specific Small Language Models (SLM” s) and other forms of machine learning. The architecture will be open and API-driven, making integration with existing telecom systems easier. Moreover, the platform will remain LLM-agnostic.

According to Pekka Lundmark, CEO of Nokia, the AI platform will help telecom companies to better utilize their network investments. The technology should improve performance, security, and operational efficiency while providing a better customer experience. Nokia provides expertise in areas such as RAN, core networks, fixed broadband, IP, and optical networks.

Open Framework for Global Deployment

Jio from India will be the first customer of the platform, but the project is intended as a reference architecture for other telecom companies worldwide. The goal is to enable AI-driven networks that self-optimize and respond in real-time to changing conditions.

AMD provides the computing power for the platform with a combination of CPU “s, GPU” s and adaptive computing solutions. Cisco contributes network solutions and security technology, including AI-driven analytics via Splunk.

Through this collaboration, the companies aim to develop new AI solutions for the telecom sector. The technology should not only improve network infrastructure but also create new business opportunities for service providers. By working together and integrating openness into the platform, the participating parties hope to bring a relevant solution to market for providers worldwide.
