Schneider Electric launches new Motivair CDUs for AI and HPC

Schneider Electric is launching new coolant distribution units on the market via Motivair. These provide scalable liquid cooling outside the IT space, tailored to AI and HPC workloads.

Motivair, part of Schneider Electric, is launching two new coolant distribution units (CDUs): the MCDU-45 and MCDU-55. These models are designed for installation outside the ‘classic’ IT space and address the increasing cooling needs in high-density environments, as is the case with AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.

Flexible installation

The new CDUs expand the existing portfolio and support both rack and floor installations. This allows data center managers to tailor their cooling strategy to the design of their infrastructure and workload profile. The units support more freedom in data center design and a wider range of cooling water temperatures. This allows for more precise tuning of cooling systems and operational parameters.

With this introduction, Schneider Electric and Motivair are responding to the trend of placing cooling systems more often outside the IT space. This creates extra space in the white space and simplifies maintenance of the cooling solution. The placement outside the server environment has no impact on ongoing AI workloads or IT operations.

First introduction under Schneider Electric

According to Motivair, the MCDU-45 and MCDU-55 provide energy savings thanks to wider operational margins. Data centers can lower their PUE through more efficient heat dissipation. The company’s full CDU range supports real-time monitoring, flow control, and adaptive load balancing. These features are designed to limit energy consumption and improve installation performance.

The new products are the first introductions since Schneider Electric acquired Motivair in early 2025. The expansion of the product range comes at a time when AI and HPC applications are demanding more and more from the underlying infrastructure. By adding scalable cooling options to its offering, Motivair aims to respond to this increasing demand.
