France Builds Largest AI Data Center Campus in Europe near Paris

The data center campus with a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts aims to strengthen Europe’s AI sovereignty and provide a necessary AI boost to various sectors.

A collaboration between Nvidia, Mistral AI, the French investment bank Bpifrance, and the MGX fund from the United Arab Emirates will create Europe’s largest AI data center campus. The project was announced during the Choose France summit in Versailles and will be built near Paris starting in 2026.

From Training to Application

The campus will have a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts and is designed to support the entire AI journey: from model training to generative applications. The infrastructure will be modular and climate-friendly. The aim is to provide a European AI boost to sectors such as healthcare, energy, mobility, and industry.

No official name or exact location has been announced yet, but the project is part of the French-Emirati AI collaborations. The CEO of investment company MGX, Ahmed Yahia, says that “France has the ambition and capacity to take the lead in this new AI era”.

Nuclear Energy

The campus would be built near existing nuclear facilities, where electricity producer EDF is already making land available. France produces sufficient energy, but the electricity grid is severely outdated. The location outside Paris or Marseille is likely chosen because of the nuclear capacity there.

Involved parties include Bouygues, grid operator RTE, fiber optic company Sipartech, and École Polytechnique. Nvidia will likely provide the GPU hardware, according to The Register. “The AI Campus will be a transformative infrastructure for France,” according to CEO Jensen Huang. The campus is expected to be operational by 2028.
