Max subscribers get access to the new AI agent Perplexity Computer.

Perplexity introduces Perplexity Computer, a new agentic tool that performs complex tasks independently using 19 different AI models.

Cloud agent for complex tasks

According to the company, it is an agent that can perform tasks independently and even create sub-agents for specific problems. In example scenarios, the agent processes various types of data, performs analyses, and publishes the results as websites or visualizations. However, a planned live demo for the press was canceled at the last minute due to discovered product bugs.

Multi-model as a strategy

The system automatically selects the most suitable model for a task, such as Claude Sonnet 4.5 for software development. Additionally, the company offers a “Model Council” feature, allowing users to query multiple models simultaneously.

TechCrunch reports that Perplexity is focusing less on user numbers and more on driving business decisions. The company states it is no longer dependent on external web APIs and has its own AI-optimized search API.

Competition remains fierce: OpenAI has reached 800 million weekly users and is testing ads in ChatGPT. Perplexity Computer is exclusively available for the Perplexity Max subscription and runs entirely in the cloud.
