Oracle has delayed the end date for support of the 19c database. Meanwhile, there is uncertainty about the on-prem version of 23ai.
Oracle recently announced that for 19c Premier Support will remain available until Dec. 31, 2029, and Extended Support until Dec. 31, 2032.
Where does this leave 23ai?
Why Oracle is adding five additional years of Premier Support is not known. Meanwhile, users await news of a broader on-prem version of Oracle’s newest database, 23ai.
With the May 2023 launch of 23ai, Oracle dropped the “c” naming convention and introduced new features such as a native VECTOR datatype and improved vector search indexing. Still, a general on-prem version remains out, with the exception of Exadata and Oracle Database Appliance (ODA).
Speaking with The Register, Martin Biggs, vice president at Spinnaker, argues that this extension raises questions. “19c becomes the longest supported Oracle version ever, while there is still no clarity on a broader on-prem release of 23ai.”
