Microsoft raises price of private 365 subscriptions for Copilot

Copilot features are now becoming available to private Microsoft 365 formulas. This inevitably comes with a price increase.

Microsoft has good news and bad news for users with a 365 Personal or Family subscription. These plans are aimed at individuals, but are also popular among sole proprietors and SMEs because they are priced lower than the business plans. Subscribers will soon pay more for their subscriptions, however.

Indeed, Copilot is also coming to private subscriptions, Microsoft confirmed in a blog. Microsoft launched Copilot a year ago within its business 365 offering. Soon, private users will also be able to play with Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook, as well as the image editor Designer.

Microsoft is rolling out Copilot for individuals first in some Asian countries, Australia and Nieux Zealand. Although not literally said in the blog, we suspect other markets will follow soon.

22 euros per month

The addition of Copilot does have some strings attached. Microsoft announces that the prices of 365 Personal and Family subscriptions will increase, but does not go into further detail. According to ZDNet, the price increase would be around 20 euros per month. The private formulas now cost 69 euros (Personal) or 99 euros (Family) per year. With family subscriptions, Copilot is only available for the primary account and cannot be shared.

For business users, Copilot is offered as an optional add-on for $22 a month. It is unclear whether Microsoft will approach a similar strategy for residential users. In markets where Copilot is already made available, the price increase will be passed on as early as the next payment, Microsoft said.
