According to IDC figures, global PC sales have increased from 69.3 million units to 75.9 million units in the past year.
Global PC sales have increased by 9.4 percent year-over-year in the past year, amounting to 75.9 million units, according to market analysts at IDC. In 2024, global PC sales totaled 69.3 million units. IDC reports that the global PC market continues to perform well due to the impending transition to Windows 11, although analysts note regional differences.
Varying by Region
“While the entire market is experiencing a strong year, driven by the transition to Windows 11 and the need to replace outdated devices, the results per region tell a different story,” says Jean Philippe Bouchard, vice president of research at IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.

The North American market remains particularly affected. According to Bouchard, this is due to import tariffs and macroeconomic uncertainties. Although there is indeed demand for new PCs ready for Windows 11, it will likely continue well into 2026.”
In the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan and China, double-digit growth rates were observed. Demand was especially high in Japan due to the end of support for Windows 10 and the GIGA project in education. Outside Japan, growth remained limited, partly due to political and economic challenges and slow adoption of Windows 11.
Lenovo Leads
Lenovo can call itself the leader in the PC market with 19.4 million units sold, representing a gain of 17.3 percent year-over-year. The PC manufacturer’s market share amounts to 25.5 percent, compared to 23.8 percent in the same quarter of fiscal year 2024.
Lenovo is followed by HP, which with 15 million units sold can note an increase of 10.7 percent year-over-year. HP’s market share is nearly identical to the third quarter of last year, at 19.8 percent. Dell, Apple, and Asus occupy the respective last three places in the top 5.
